Living and working in Wales

Hywel Dda Health Board is looking for outstanding clinicians to join us at this exciting time.  As the birthplace of the National Health Service, Wales is embarking on a new model of healthcare provision by integrating acute services with commissioning processes and creating organisations who can provide seamless care pathways, with the emphasis on patient care within a community setting.

They provide integrated acute hospital and community services across three counties in West Wales – Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire – serving a population of 305 thousand in a predominantly rural environment over a large geographical area.

West Wales provides a wonderful lifestyle opportunity, each of their major sites are in coastal areas, from the beautiful beaches of Pembrokeshire to the spectacular mountains of Ceredigion, and offer excellent quality schools, affordable and attractive residential properties,  amenities and activities such as surfing, mountain biking, fishing, sailing, hiking and walking in a natural and clean environment.

Wherever you choose to work, you will be in the company of dedicated and committed professionals and colleagues.  They have a number of vacancies at all levels across the Health Board which are described on this website and if you are interested they would welcome the opportunity to talk to you and for you to come and visit them in West Wales.

Carmarthen
Carmarthen is a busy and thriving Norman market town, situated in the heart of Carmarthenshire. The town is renowned for the market in the precinct. Here you will find stalls selling produce from Swansea to Cardigan Bay, cheeses from Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire, local organic foods, farmhouse salt bacon, sausages, delicious cockles from the south Wales beaches and the renowned laver bread.
Carmarthen is a great place for shopping and can also boast all the big high street names as well as a good selection of quality local businesses. There are over 80 pubs in the town and many fine restaurants in which to try the local produce.
Carmarthenshire is in the centre of an area of outstanding natural beauty.  In close proximity to the Gower Peninsular, Pembrokeshire Coast, Preseli Mountains and Brecon Beacons, the area affords excellent opportunities for recreational and sporting activities. The city of Swansea, with its theatres, cinemas and shopping facilities is close at hand whilst Cardiff, the capital city of Wales is less than 1 hour away.  The M4 motorway and intercity rail network provides easy access to all major UK centres.  A range of good quality public and private sector schooling and affordable executive housing is available locally.
Haverfordwest

The town of Haverfordwest is the centre of a busy hospital area with many beaches close-by.  An indoor heated swimming pool, tennis courts and other recreational facilities are available in the town centre and at Sir Thomas Picton School.

There is a public transport service running regularly from the town to outlying rural areas though use of a car would be an advantage as in all rural areas the public transport service is not always regarded as being completely adequate.

The hospital is, by car, within 1_ hours’ travelling time from the shopping centre of Swansea and 2 hours’ travelling time from the University College Hospital and the shopping centre in Cardiff.

Haverfordwest is located in the heart of Pembrokeshire south west Wales. As the second largest town in the county, after Milford Haven, Haverfordwest is a charming little town situated midway between Tenby and Fishguard. Not just the administrative town for Pembrokeshire, Haverfordwest also serves a road network hub, connecting towns such as Pembroke Dock, Milford Haven, St David’s and Fishguard.

Llanelli
Llanelli is a vibrant shopping centre with numerous attractions nearby including the Millennium Coastal Park, Celtic Trail Cycleway, Pembrey Country Park and Cefn Sidan Beach, Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust and Parc Howard Museum.

Prince Philip Hospital is in close proximity to the beautiful Gower Peninsular and the unspoilt beaches of the West Wales coastline.  There is a wealth of sporting and recreational activities in the area and the City of Swansea with its well known amenities is close by.  Cardiff, the capital city of Wales is less than 1 hour away.  The M4 motorway and intercity rail network provides easy access to all major UK centres.  A range of good quality public and private sector schooling and affordable executive housing is available.

Aberystwyth
Aberystwyth is situated on the West Coast of Wales, in the centre of Cardigan Bay. The town nestles between three hills and faces seaward in a colourful curved terrace of three and four storey Victorian hotels and boarding houses.  Pendinas hill to the south, Constitution Hill to the North, and Penglais Hill to the east,  There are two shingle beaches, a lively but truncated pier, a picturesque harbour/marina that has been dramatically remodelled to provide permanent berths for over 100 vessels, and on the headland between the harbour and town beach are the remains of the late 13th Century Aberystwyth Castle.

The town of Aberystwyth is a University town as well as a seaside resort, and many of the buildings reflect this in their style and function.  Many of the Victorian seafront hotels have been taken over as accommodation for the University students and this helps to extend the nightlife of the town past the usual short summer season.  Indeed there are close to 50 pubs in the town, many having been completely refurbished and styled to suit both the holiday makers and the student population.
