Living and working in West Norfolk
King’s Lynn sits at the intersection of three major routes, giving good access to the Midlands, East Anglia and the South. The large cities of Cambridge, Norwich and Peterborough can be reached in an hour by road and London King’s Cross is only 1 hr 40 minutes away by train. The popular West Norfolk coast and Sandringham estate, much of which has been designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, is only a few miles away.
Set on the banks of the River Great Ouse, King’s Lynn was once one of England’s most important ports. Its maritime past is still much in evidence today as demonstrated by a range of wonderful historic buildings including the world famous Custom House and Medieval Guild Hall. The town retains its character yet also offers a modern, pedestrianised shopping centre having recently undergone a £6 million transformation. There are various cultural and leisure facilities including a 730 capacity theatre, Arts centre, three screen cinema, swimming pool, sports centres, bowling alley, speedway stadium and a range of restaurants, pubs and clubs for evening entertainment. Various free festivals and events take place every year and the influx of tourists really brings King’s Lynn and West Norfolk to life during the summer months.
To the south of King’s Lynn, a huge swathe of brownfield land is being transformed into a housing development (including contemporary apartments lining the “http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/River_Nar” \o “River Nar” River Nar), a business park, parkland, school, shops and a new relief road in a £300 million scheme. A 250 berth marina, surrounded by apartments, hotel, shops, bars and restaurants is also planned.
