This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic, friendly medical and emergency care division in a forward-looking medium sized acute Foundation Trust. You will join a team of 5 Consultants, 8 Middle Grades, one Specialist Registrar, [post empty at present], seven FY2/GPVTS doctors in Emergency Medicine and a team of Nurse Practitioners.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide with other Clinical colleagues a comprehensive Emergency Medicine Service in Mid Staffordshire.

Responsible for care and day-to-day clinical management of patients presenting to the Emergency Department. To provide emergency treatment to patients attending the Department and to liaise with the relevant specialist staff to arrange on-going care.

To provide advice and support to Emergency Nurse Practitioners.

Take part in continuing professional development. Further education is encouraged and it is hoped that the post-holders will work towards role enhancement and appropriate post-graduate exams to further their professional careers.

This is a General Hospital, with a very pleasant modern infrastructure which was opened in 1983 and extended in 1996. It contains 333 beds and houses the main outpatient department and the Emergency department. There is a large x-ray department on site with state of the art CT scanning and a modern well equipped critical care unit with HDU.

The Medical Division has 128 beds on the site divided into specialised wards for elderly care, gastroenterology, chest medicine, endocrine and cardiology. There is an eight bedded Acute Cardiac Unit (coronary care unit) with an onsite diagnostic cardiac catheterisation and pacing suite. The current Acute Medical Unit (AMU) has 36 beds and 4 GP assessment beds.
