Based: The Portland Hospital

To be part of a multi disciplinary team that provides 24 hour medical support to a specific group of patients and immediate life support to any patient visitor of staff member as required.

To assist in the management of patients and to provide specialist support for consultants.

To develop and maintain close working relationships with consultant users, nursing and midwifery staff in the hospital.

To provide specialist medical cover, routine and emergency during hours of duty and to act, as may be reasonably required, on instructions given by the consultants regarding patients management.

To carry out a comprehensive handover from outgoing RMO to incoming RMO on a daily basis.

To undertake a daily ward round with a member of the Midwifery staff and / or Consultant Specialist ensuring patients are visited where appropriate.

To assess patients at the request of the Midwife in charge and manage any emergency as may arise with the guidance of the consultant in charge.

To attend to emergencies in outpatient areas, and imaging departments as requested.

To provide urgent medical attention to staff or visitors in case of accident or sudden illness in liaison with the Duty Manager in charge of the hospital until the person is admitted under a consultant or transferred to the nearest NHS casualty and to ensure completion of a Datix form noting RIDDOR status.
